Training your dog from the first moment you get them is essential to having a smooth transition for you and your pet. Here are my top 3 dog training tips to consider as you get started on your training.
The first tip is very important before choosing a pet
1. Do not get a puppy unless you can spend time with it throughout the day. A puppy cannot hold its bladder for a whole 8-10 hour workday. Every time it eliminates in its own area, the longer housebreaking will take. That will leave you frustrated, and puppy in a not ideal situation. Not good for either of you. If this is a case, a little older dog and a crate for when your not home is the ideal situation.
Once you pick your pet, Tip 2 and 3 deal with the most important part of integrating your new pet, schedule!
2.Know your dog. Know their schedule of sleep, eating, eliminating. Training is much easier when you know what to expect. It sounds silly but having an idea of what they do when will limit surprises.
3.Keep your dogs schedule consistent, training is much easier when your dog knows what to expect. You should feed them at the same time, take them out to eliminate at the same time. If your dog knows what to expect, they will adjust to fit within your schedule as well.
